Designed by Henry Hobson Richardson in 1876, Woburn Public Library is a National Historic Landmark. The 19,700 sf original building was extensively renovated, and a 30,500 sf addition was constructed. The modernized facility features reading rooms, reference collections, dedicated children and teen sections, an innovation lab/makerspace, a 100-person presentation room with state-of-the-art A/V, study rooms, and executive offices.
MEP/FP systems were designed to optimize performance, including thermal, visual, and acoustical comfort, while maintaining the historically significant integrity of the interiors. Floor-to-floor heights in the addition were restricted due to integration of the existing building; MEP/FP system layouts were carefully and creatively integrated.
