The Gilder Center

Northfield Mount Hermon School
Gill, MA

The 42,000 sf Gilder Center is a space where students can expand their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines, in a collaborative and technologically advanced learning environment. The center features flexible academic spaces including classrooms that can be scaled in size, breakout spaces, and a makerspace.

The site design included 100% stormwater detention and infiltration.  The building structure included a Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) slab for low embodied carbon, and aesthetic appeal. Energy modeling and life cycle cost analysis guided the selection of HVAC systems and informed the team on insulation and glazing selections. Low flow plumbing fixtures were included to reduce annual potable water consumption.
