The new 247,000 sf Massachusetts Veterans’ Home at Chelsea serves as a long-term care facility for the Commonwealth’s veterans. The facility includes 154 private rooms as well as areas for administration, OT/PT, a central kitchen, and community spaces.
Based on RFS’s expertise for geothermal wellfield thermal modeling and design, we were called on to join the A/E team for this project. Initial services included coordination for an onsite test well and thermal conductivity testing. Follow-on services include life cycle and carbon impact analysis, wellfield thermal modeling, and design. The design included a vertical-bore closed-loop wellfield consisting of 145 500-foot deep wells. The wells were designed to coordinate with extensive landscape and stormwater management infrastructure. The project is targeting LEED Platinum Certification.
