Snyder Center

Phillips Academy Andover
Andover, MA

The 98,000 sf Snyder Center at Phillips Academy provides state-of-the-art venues for NEPSAC athletics including track and field and squash. The fieldhouse includes a 200-meter track, and also supports multi-use functions including tennis, basketball, and off-season training for outdoor athletic teams. Fitness studios, multipurpose areas, and breakout rooms enable the building to serve as a campus center for general student activities.

The building was designed as a net-zero energy facility, employing a creative use of waste heat from ice-making refrigeration at an adjacent two-sheet rink facility. This in combination with a building-integrated 660 KW photovoltaic array, demand-control ventilation, ventilation energy recovery, fieldhouse air destratification, daylight harvesting, and LED lighting helped the Synder Center to achieve LEED Platinum Certification.
