Pan Athletic Center

Phillips Academy Andover
Andover, MA

Phillips Academy aimed to provide its students with an updated athletic facility for NESCAC competition, athletic recreation, and general health and wellness. The new 70,000 sf Pan Athletic Center includes a swimming and diving complex, dance studios, wrestling facilities, and the Academy Athletics Hall of Honor.

MEP systems include an in-building microturbine for partial production of building electric power, with waste heat used year-round pool water heating, domestic water heating, and partial building heating. A high-performance envelope coupled with mechanical dehumidification prevents interior building condensation, including on a north-facing curtainwall in the natatorium. Daylighting and lighting design enhance architecture throughout the new building, while glare is modulated by building form and thoughtful shading devices.
