Kanc8 is a first-of-its-kind, semi-enclosed pavilion that wraps around the Kancamagus 8 lift at Loon Mountain. The 15,000 sf high-speed lift transports 3,500 skiers per hour in eight-seat D-Line Doppelmayr chairs with ergonomically-shaped heated seats. The pavilion can also be used as four-season event space to support numerous mountain events throughout the year.
The dramatic steel-frame structure includes a cantilevered roof structure with 24” deep glulam beams and CLT roof decking. The steel structure was designed to support a series of rails to permit the unloading of all chairs every night into an interior storage corral. RFS collaborated with the architect and Doppelmayr to develop the hanger system and rails to meet the tight construction and deflection tolerances of the lift system.
