Wallach Center for Innovation

Cardigan Mountain School
Canaan, NH

The Wallach Center for Innovation at Cardigan Mountain School facilitates hands-on learning through design, engineering, and arts.  The 20,000 sf building includes classrooms, digital arts classroom, visual arts studio, woodshop on the first floor. A second-floor gallery space provides a showcase for student work, with extensive natural lighting and views of the campus and the Cardigan Mountain range.

Structural and MEP/FP systems support the specialized program. The superstructure design minimizes placement of columns in open shop areas. Ventilation systems provide extraction of welding, laser cutting, and painting processes, as well as wood dust collection, all operating on-demand to control energy usage. Electrical systems provide flexible power distribution for shops and maker space areas. Lighting systems include automatic dimming to modulate artificial lighting when natural lighting is sufficient.
