Electrical Infrastructure Upgrades

The Jackson Laboratory
Bar Harbor, ME

The Jackson Laboratory is an independent, non-profit biomedical research institution headquartered in Bar Harbor, ME, with additional facilities nationally and internationally. For the Bar Harbor campus consisting of 47 buildings, RFS served as prime consultant for upgrades to the 34.5 kV primary power distribution system. Project goals included increasing distribution capacity to support planned campus growth, upgrading head-end electrical equipment serving the mission-critical research laboratory complex, and relocating overhead distribution to underground.

RFS’s design included provisions for construction sequencing and phasing, to minimize power service disruptions, especially for research operations. Upon completion, the capacity of the distribution system was increased, safety and reliability of research laboratory electrical infrastructure was improved, and aesthetics and resiliency of the distribution system were enhanced.
