Constructed in 1912, 26 Court Street is an 11-story, 175,000 sf municipal office building owned by the City of Boston. Extensive renovation will provide modern, flexible workspaces for several City departments, and will include a universally accessible and welcoming plaza, public library, and gallery.
This renovation will enable all-electric thermal energy production, a first for City of Boston municipal real estate modernization. Extensive coordination was required with the electrical utility to integrate an in-building medium voltage transformer vault. Building systems strategies include air-source heat pump heating and air conditioning, energy recovery ventilation, and premium efficient lighting and controls.
Telecommunications infrastructure will provide multi-gigabit services for building users and will serve as a network node supporting more than 30 downstream City municipal buildings and schools. Security systems will include access control, CCTV surveillance, and intrusion detection providing 24/7 coverage. A/V systems will include broadcast streaming for public meetings via the Internet and the City public access television channel.
